Year-Long ELA Assignments
At the completion of each book, students will record the book in the Readers Response Journal and respond to the book in writing. They have many choices in their Readers Response Journal but here are a few more.
After reading a book and completing a reading response in their journal, each student will receive a "popcorn" to put on the bulletin board. The ELA class with the most "popcorns" at the end of the month gets to have a lunch party with me!

Book Talks
Each month your child will prepare and perform a book talk on a book they read during the month. Each book talk will include the following information:
"If you like to laugh so hard you cry, you will love Roald Dahl's The BFG! This fantasy story is about the adventures of a Big Friendly Giant and a little girl named Sophia. Sophia and the BFG learn a lot about each other after the BFG snatches her from her orphanage because she saw him collect dreams of sleeping children. At first, Sophia is afraid of the BFG because she assumes that he will eat her; however, he assures her that he is friendly but the other giants are certainly not and would eat her in one bite! After Sophia and the BFG become friends, they come up with a crazy plan that will save the children of England from the "human bean eating giants"! Roald Dahl has written many other books such as Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, The Witches, James and the Giant Peach, and an autobiography called Boy. I wanted to share this book because I love that Roald Dahl makes up silly words for things. The book makes me laugh every time I read it.
